The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

“We on hunger-strike because we left our countries to find our human rights and unfortunately here we find none” – Statement from the hunger strikers in the Jungle, Calais.

The Hunger Strikers of the Calais jungle camp have asked a member of the EU Commission of Human Rights to come to the Calais jungle to meet them in order to:
-witness the inhumane treatment of residents by the CRS Police
– stop the forced destruction of the camp

When I visited the Jungle and had the privilege to meet these great men, they were 10 people on hunger strike with their mouths sewn closed in the jungle in Calais. I’ve photographed 7 of them. Two of them kindly asked not to be photographed and the other was very weak and resting. They are now on the 9th day without eating… still no one from EU Commission of Human Rights has come to meet them!

The articles were taken from The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 General Assembly resolution 217 A as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.
